Initial OT Consultation
*Required for all first-time Clients!
Step 1: Let’s get to know each other!
During this 60-minute phone or virtual meeting, your Occupational Therapy will review your relevant medical history and current functional concerns. Together, you will identify the next steps including assessment needs and treatment goals!
*For Clients with Agency funding (ie: FSCD, WCB, etc) please phone to book your initial OT consultation as your funder may require specific timelines.

Depending on the results of your initial consultation, your OT may have recommended a community-based assessment.
Your OT will meet you at location of your choice to assess your function during a community-based activity with barriers to participation/access.
Based on this assessment, your OT may make recommendations for treatment or modifications to increase participation/access.

Community Functional Assessment
Home Accessibility Assessment
Depending on the results of your initial consultation, your OT may have recommended a Home Accessibility Assessment.
During this 90-minute in-person appointment, your OT will complete a physical assessment of your property to determine any barriers to access or function. Based on this assessment, your OT may make recommendations for modifications.

Workplace Assessment
Depending on the results of your initial consultation, your OT may have recommended a workplace assessment.
Once arranged with your employer, your OT will meet you at your job site and complete an assessment of the physical environment as well as your current performance within your job demands.
Based on this assessment, your OT may make recommendations for treatment or modifications to increase your job performance.

In-Home Functional Assessment
Depending on the results of your initial consultation, your OT may have recommended an In-Home Functional Assessment.
During this 90-minute in-person appointment, your OT will complete an assessment of your functioning during activities of daily living within your home. This will allow your OT to identify and physical, cognitive or task-based that are impacting independence. Based on this assessment, your OT may make recommendations for treatment or modifications to increase independence.

Equipment Trials and Prescription
Depending on the results of your initial consultation, your OT may have recommended home safety or mobility equipment as a way of increasing your function and independence.
Your OT will work together with a medical equipment vendor of your choosing to trial equipment in your home. Your OT can prescribe appropriate equipment and help you access funding through Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) or your private health insurance.
